Museums/Site Seeing

This is the reason most people travel to Russia, and there is so very much to see. But as a foreigner you will discover that there is a dual price system in Russia for the tourist from other countries. In Moscow and Saint Petersburg it is enforced by Babushkas (grandmothers) at every entrance of every Museum, and these Babushkas patrol each and every room of the Museum. Prices are generally ten times higher for you than it is for a Russian. There are special Ticket Booths that sell tickets for foreigners. You can slip in as a Russian if someone who speaks Russian purchases a Russian ticket for you, or if you are touring with a Russian. But be warned the Babushkas are very good at what they do and can spot foreigners with great accuracy.

You should also note, that Russian Museums are famous for having more than one kind of ticket required. Many Museums have sectioned off the Museum and you are required to purchase other tickets if you wish to see all the exhibits. This is important if you are having a Russian buying a Russian ticket for you, make sure they purchase all the tickets required.

Outside Moscow center you will see a lot of garbage, Russia now has garbage pickup, but there is so much garbage in rural areas outside of Moscow it is quite disgusting. For many years there was no garbage pickup, so it was up to you to dispose of it, usually in the street or the neighbors street. It is quite a problem and a real shame to see. But it is improving.
